Vancomycin is a glycopeptide antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. Kills bacteria by inhibiting their growth and reproduction. The drug interferes with cell wall synthesis by interfering with peptidoglycan, a key component of bacterial cell wall structure, inhibiting the production of phospholipids and polypeptides in the cell wall. Vancomycin is mainly used in the treatment of infection in four aspects: the first is the treatment of drug-resistant bacterial infection; the other is also used in the treatment of antibiotic-resistant pseudomembranous colitis caused by Clostridium difficile.
