Due to its low blood concentration, its use is limited to mild and moderate infections caused by penicillin-sensitive pathogens, such as tonsillitis caused by group A streptococcus, scarlet fever, erysipelas, streptococcus pneumoniae pneumonia, boils and carbuncles caused by penicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus, and angina of Vinson. It can also be used to treat leptospirosis, regression fever and early syphilis.
